Recently, I have been answering the question of how to restore a missing toolbar or ribbon from Microsoft Office tools like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint. This tip works for any of the Office tools 2007 or newer. Usually, the toolbar goes missing because of an errant click or keyboard combination.

In the video below, I show how to restore the ribbon using the little drop down menu in the upper left corner of any Office product (again, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc). After clicking the menu, simply uncheck the Minimize Ribbon option.

The Menu bar or the Minimize, Restore, and Close buttons are missing in Excel and in Word Symptoms. When you view a Microsoft Excel worksheet or a Microsoft Word document in full-screen mode, the menu bar may not be displayed. Or, the Minimize Window, Restore Window (or Maximize Window), and Close Window buttons may be missing. If they are checked, to be shown but are not appearing on the screen, then you should try customizing the toolbar.

One bonus tip that I didn’t mention in the video: keyboard shortcut aficionados can use Ctrl+F1on the keyboard to hide or show the Microsoft Office Toolbar/Ribbon.

Microsoft Word Menu Toolbar Disappeared

A lot of the useful features in IE 11 are now missing: the menu and toolbar, internet options, and 'organize favorites' are gone. The Favorites bar is still present in Edge, now called the Hub (top right, 3-line icon). Creating and getting Favorites is as easy in Edge as in IE 11.
